Workshop Overview

Created in partnership with Disney on Broadway, this is 2 1/2-hour session blends Disney magic with the glitz of live musical theater. Students perform a scene from a Disney Broadway musical and learn about the elements required to bring these productions together—including music, staging, costuming and props.

Your Disney teaching artist will take your group through the same rehearsal process used for Disney Broadway musicals, during which students will:

  • Emphasize the importance of a proper warm-up before any performance or rehearsal
  • Rehearse choreography by lyrics rather than counts
  • Focus on breath control and diction integrated with movement
  • Learn how to make appropriate vocal/acting choices for a musical composition and its lyrics
  • Examine how body language, facial expressions and vocal dynamics are key elements in defining story and character
  • Discover techniques for quickly learning and remembering choreography and lyrics
  • Discuss the roles of director, music director, stage manager, technical crew and choreographer
  • Discover the purpose of blocking and staging, in addition to learning theater-staging terminology

To help you better prepare for the workshop, the music and script will be pre-mailed. For the best possible experience, we ask that your group rehearse the music and script before arriving for the workshop. Students should wear clothing and shoes that are appropriate for a musical theater production number, such as dance or athletic shoes. Please do not arrive in sandals or bare feet.
