Embark on an interactive adventure where you'll explore the physics of light and sound through select attractions at Magic Kingdom park and examine the wide range of the electromagnetic spectrum.

Program Overview

Students will discover how energy is transmitted by light and sound waves. Participants will also learn how these waves affect the Disney Guest experience and day-to-day life. Additionally, students find out how light and sound can be manipulated.

Learning Objectives

After completing Energy and Waves Physics Lab, participants will be able to:

  • Articulate a variety of forms of energy
  • Define and demonstrate a compression wave
  • Define a medium
  • Demonstrate and articulate how solids, liquids and gasses affect sound
  • Articulate the factors that may affect the speed of sound
  • Define acoustics
  • Demonstrate how white light is composed of different colors of light
  • Articulate how different colors of light are made up of different wavelengths
  • Articulate how UV light causes fluorescing in some substances
  • Articulate the factors that can influence the intensity of UV light
  • Demonstrate how scrim is used to create special effects
  • Demonstrate how light can be projected through a lens
  • Demonstrate how light is reflected in glass
  • Articulate the parts of a wave
  • Define and demonstrate frequency
  • Articulate the Pepper's Ghost effect
  • Articulate how an understanding of acoustics can aid in the creation of sound effects

Below are 6 easy steps for planning your Disney Youth Education Series visit to Walt Disney World® Resort.

  1. Select the program(s) that best suits your group.
  2. Choose the dates you intend to visit. Disney Youth Education Series programs are available year-round. While we will work diligently to accommodate your request, we ask that you identify an alternate program date in case programming is not available on your preferred date.
  3. Submit a Program Request Form. Programs are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Early registration is encouraged to ensure availability of your chosen program.
  4. Upon receipt of confirmation from the Disney Youth Programs team, you may purchase your value-priced group theme park Ticket Packages, which include your first Disney Youth Education Series program. Ask your Disney Youth Representative about adding additional programs during your visit to maximize your experience.
  5. You can also purchase tickets that include other Disney parks or events, including: Disney water parks, Disney's Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf Course, Disney's Winter Summerland Miniature Golf Course and ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
  6. Be sure to request information on food and beverage options and convenient Disney on-site group hotel accommodations.

Additional Guests are the perfect way to share the wonder and magic of your Walt Disney World® Resort visit. Students, friends and family can each enjoy their own special kind of Disney fun with the same great value-priced Disney Youth Education Series ticket packages!* The Disney Youth Education Series Additional Guest ticket package does not include participation in the Disney Youth Education Series program.

Disney Youth Representatives can guide you in choosing the programs that best suit your group, plan your food and beverage options and book your Disney Resort accommodations at special group rates.

*A minimum of 10 students is required and a maximum of one (1) adult may attend the program per every five (5) students. Minimum of 1 adult per 15 students must attend the Program. The number of Group Leaders and additional Guests (i.e. chaperones, parents, siblings, etc.) may not exceed the number of students.

Theme park admission is required and all participants must purchase a Disney Youth Education Series Ticket Package to attend any Disney Youth Education Series program. Use of an admission is required for entrance into the park on the date of your program. Tickets are valid for 7 days prior to your arrival date and after departure date. Tickets are only available to residents of the Domestic U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. Annual passes, complimentary admission and regular front‐gate admission cannot be applied to the cost of a program.
