Program Overview

Students in grades 3-7 play the role of marine conservationists to learn about the difficulties facing aquatic animals in the wild and ways they can help them. During this 3-hour program your group will practice their observational skills to identify a variety of fish species, as well as predators and prey. Students will also team up to brainstorm creative solutions for protecting our oceans and marine life.

Learning Objectives

During this interactive field study, students will:

  • Use a problem-based approach to develop ideas and make effective conservation decisions
  • Increase their awareness of adverse human impact on marine environments
  • Be encouraged to take an active role in the preservation of marine life and their habitats
  • Discuss some of the challenges faced by sea turtles and other marine animals in the wild
  • Learn best practices for sustainable seafood
  • Distinguish between looking and observing by identifying diverse marine species as a group
