Disney's Broadway Magic combines the thrill of Broadway and the magic of Disney into a single workshop, giving students an inside look at theatre, music, staging, costuming and props, as well as the opportunity to perform material from a Broadway musical.

Disney's Broadway Magic combines the thrill of Broadway and the magic of Disney into a single workshop, giving students an inside look at theatre, music, staging, costuming and props, as well as the opportunity to perform material from a Broadway musical. This workshop was created by Disney Performing Arts in partnership with Disney on Broadway.

Disney's Broadway Magic is 2 ½ hours in length, and is meant for theatre groups, drama clubs, dance studios and show choirs.

Key Learning Points
  • Learn the importance of proper warm-up before any performance or rehearsal.
  • Focus on breath control and diction integrated with movement.
  • How to make the appropriate vocal/acting choices with the musical composition and lyrics to move the plot along.
  • Understand what makes a musical different from a straight play.
  • How the use of body language/gestures, facial expressions and vocal dynamics tie in key elements that are necessary to define your story and character.
  • Discover techniques for quickly learning and remembering movement and lyrics.
  • Understand the roles of the Director, Music Director, Stage Manager, Technical Crew, and Choreographer.
  • Learn the choreography, not by counts, but rather to the lyrics.
  • Understand the purpose of blocking and staging, and learn theatre staging terminology.
What to Expect
Disney's Broadway Magic will be taught by a professional Disney performer who will take your group through the rehearsal process used by Disney Broadway musicals.
  • The workshop takes place in a special Disney rehearsal facility.
  • An inside look at theatre, music, staging, costuming, and props. Your students will have the opportunity to perform original material from a Disney Broadway musical.
  • To better prepare for the workshop, the music and script will be sent prior to your visit. We ask that the group rehearse the music and script before arriving for the workshop.
  • Students should wear clothing and shoes that are appropriate for a musical theatre production number. Dance or athletic shoes are considered appropriate for this workshop.
