Students Become Honorary Disney Imagineers in Disney Youth Education Series Program at Walt Disney World Resort
October 28, 2011
New education program immerses students in the magic of Disney storytelling and science
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Oct. 2011) – Imagine getting to meet a Walt Disney Imagineer and experience firsthand how science and storytelling come together to create world-famous Disney attractions. Student groups can do all that and more in a new learning adventure called The Science of Disney Imagineering: The Experience. The two-and-a-half-hour program will premiere January 2012 at Disney's Hollywood Studios.
This one-of-a-kind field study is the newest addition to the collection of Disney Youth Education Series programs. It's facilitated by an Imagineering Associate who takes students inside the world of Walt Disney Imagineering, the creative force behind Disney parks, resorts, attractions, cruise ships and entertainment venues around the world. The program offers an insider's look at the Disney creative process and challenges students to use their skills in observation, creativity and teamwork to problem-solve just like Disney Imagineers.
Learning comes to life when students explore Disney's Hollywood Studios as Honorary Imagineers. Their newfound perspective, coupled with a dynamic media presentation, helps students understand how the art of storytelling can create immersive themed environments. Students also discover how Imagineering's artistic approach and skilful manipulation of scientific principles combine to create thrilling sensations on attractions like The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster.
Another highlight of the program is the opportunity to meet and interact with a Disney Imagineer. This session offers meaningful personal insights into science and art. Students can also ask questions and learn more about the education and professional paths that can lead to rewarding careers with creative organizations like Walt Disney Imagineering.
"This exciting new program will undoubtedly inspire students to excel in the classroom," said Tim Hill, director of Disney Special Programs for Disney Destinations. "They'll see how our Imagineers use the principals of science, engineering, math and technology and combine them with the magic of storytelling to create world-famous Disney parks and attractions. It's packed with education and learning, but it's also fun and inspirational."
The Science of Disney Imagineering: The Experience offers a comprehensive curriculum that includes pre-arrival materials to help prepare students for topics covered during the program. That's followed up with a post-trip exercise that helps teachers reinforce students' newfound knowledge.
The program is designed for middle and high school students and is available to groups of 15 or more participants. Each participant will receive a commemorative notebook and a pen that can be used to record observations and ideas during and after the experience.
The booking window is now open for groups arriving January 2012 or later. For more information about The Science of Disney Imagineering: The Experience, call Disney Youth Programs at 877-939-6884.

Student Performers Experience the Thrill of Broadway Through Disney Performing Arts Workshop
October 28, 2011
Theatre workshop gives student groups a starring role in a Disney production
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Oct. 2011) – Student performers can experience what it's like being the star of a Broadway musical, when they take part in Disney's Broadway Magic Workshop at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. The newest Disney Performing Arts Workshop immerses student performers in the world of theatre. A highlight of the program is the chance to work with a professional Disney performer who teaches students a production number from a current Broadway musical.
Created by Disney Performing Arts in conjunction with Disney on Broadway, this one-of-a-kind experience offers students an insider's look at how a Broadway production is created. The program offers a study of essential production elements such as music, staging, costuming and props, while helping students practice skills that are critical for theatre professionals. Students also learn how to tell extraordinary stories by using theatre production basics such as body movement, vocal dynamics and facial expressions.
"Students get to experience what it's really like to perform in a Broadway show," said Tim Hill, director of Disney Special Programs for Disney Destinations. "We worked with Broadway veterans to create an experience where students can step into the world of live theater, practice their craft, perform on a real Disney stage and have fun while doing it all."
Disney's Broadway Magic is available for student performers ages 11 and up. It is especially appropriate for theatre groups, drama clubs, dance studios and show choirs. The experience is two-and-a-half hours in length and available for groups of 10 to 45 attendees. To enhance learning and help them make the most of the workshop, participating groups receive pre-program materials that include the music and script for the Broadway production number taught during the workshop.
For more information about Disney's Broadway Magic Workshop, please call Disney Youth Programs at 877-939-6884.

"Since it premiered at the Walt Disney World Resort in 2009, the Jazz Celebration has grown in popularity and stature," said Tim Hill, Director of Disney Special Programs. Kingdom Keepers Book Series Comes to Life as a New Disney Youth Program at Walt Disney World® Resort
May 2, 2011
Students embark on their own Kingdom Keepers Quest at the Magic Kingdom® Park
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (May 2011) – Inspired by the Kingdom Keepers adventure novel series written by Ridley Pearson, Disney Youth Programs has launched Kingdom Keepers Quest, an immersive new educational activity offered at the Walt Disney World® Resort. The program was co-created by The New York Times best-selling author and designed for young people between the ages of 10 and 12.
Kingdom Keepers Quest brings learning to life by helping students practice essential skills like problem solving, creativity, language arts, mathematics and critical thinking. Participants set off on a self-guided tour through the Magic Kingdom Park® in search of clues that will help them on their mission to save the magic. The program inspires young students to enhance their reading proficiency by engaging in the popular book series that is already used as a learning tool in classrooms across the country.
"This program is a very important addition to our youth-group product line, since it was a response to guests asking for ways they could go on a Kingdom Keepers adventure," said Tim Hill, director of Disney Special Programs. "From that interest came the idea for an educational quest where students could come and experience the Kingdom Keepers books in a new, interactive and fun way."
Kingdom Keepers author Ridley Pearson said, "One of the most potent added values of Kingdom Keepers Quest is that it puts the action of literacy back on the ground. Students are able to take a book and live it. Creativity doesn't come from reading a book or taking a class, it comes from going out and living every day and looking around you. By taking this program, kids will learn to observe, work as a team, take new ideas and process them in new ways, and bring them back into the classroom."
Pearson's Kingdom Keepers books are published by Disney-Hyperion Books and follow the thrilling adventures of five young adults, referred to as the Kingdom Keepers, as they embark on a journey to save each of the Walt Disney World® theme parks from classic Disney villains, known in the series as Overtakers.
The program is ideal for groups with a student/facilitator ratio of five to one. Each participating group will receive an exclusive Kingdom Keepers Quest guide map and notebook that will lead students through the Magic Kingdom® Park. The guide helps students use math and language-arts skills to solve puzzles and clues in order to advance on the quest and support the Kingdom Keepers' efforts to hold back the Overtakers.
For more information on Kingdom Keepers Quest, please call Disney Youth Programs at 877-939-6884.

Along with the new name comes an expanded program roster that includes performing opportunities for dance groups at the Walt Disney World® Resort in Florida, Disneyland® Resort in California, Disneyland® Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland®.
